I told Mark all month that all I wanted for Christmas from him was a baby. I was sick with the flu and bronchitis for several weeks and thought I’d have to wait and try another time. However, this morning we discovered that we’re expecting!!
We couldn’t be happier. We’ve only been trying for a couple months now, so it certainly didn’t take long. I’m not sure when or how we’ll share the news. A few people know that we’ve been working on it (because I have a big mouth), but it should be a surprise to most.
So far I’m feeling pretty good (it’s pretty early in the game). My stomach has felt crampy and weird for about a week now so I had a feeling something was up. I went to bed around 9pm last night, but that’s not all that early for my normally sleepy self and I knew I was going to test this morning, so I was ready to get sleeping.
I found this fancy little tool to keep everyone informed on the progress of the little one, so I’ll be posting this info every week or so. We’re just about finished with week four for your reference…

In week 3, sperm meets egg, and voila: conception! Your little zygote sets off on a six-day trek through your fallopian tubes, dividing and redividing into identical cells as it travels to your uterus.
In week 4, now safe in your womb, the ball of cells (blastocyst) splits in two, becoming the embryo and the placenta. The amniotic sac and fluid are forming around baby, and will act as a cushion for the next eight months.
Note: This post was originally created on December 31, 2008, but not published. If you are reading this it means the news is out. We have not yet decided how long we’ll keep this secret between us, but I wanted to write a post in real time.
